- See if these work for you: home offices that are far from austere and close to constructive
Exotic shapes and colors give this workspace the feeling that the owner has brought back beloved items from far-flung adventures. If contemporary cozy is more your thing, add some floating shelves to your walls. They’re easy to fit, incredibly versatile, and you can showcase your books and files. Lighting is an important part of creating a cozy environment that still inspires productivity. Too dark and you’ll be drifting off, too bright and it will feel like a doctor’s office!

Natural colors always work great when it comes to catching a working mood. Adding some potted plants used as an element of decor is a good opportunity to make your home office look and feel livelier. Still, always note that plants need a lot of light and, sometimes, a lot of care. For sure, potted cactus is the best choice for those so not want to spend much time carrying about flowers. When it comes to decorating your home office, there are no limits in adding shelves. Even if you do not need many to keep your essential supplies, there is always a chance to use them as an element of decor.

And finally, I felt like the wood accent wall needed something on it, but I didn’t want to hang something that was going to cover up the whole wall. Hanging art on the walls was one of the things that made the biggest difference in making this feel like a pulled together space rather than a random collection of thrifted furniture.

It’s neutral enough to fade into the background but has enough color and pattern not to be boring. I’m super happy with how they look, but I do have to warn you they are incredibly see-through, particularly at night. I wouldn’t recommend using these in a private space like a bedroom or bathroom. During the years this room was a nursery, little toddlers trying to look out the window had bent the slats all along the lower section of the window. And this big double window with it’s wonky blinds was the first thing that caught your eye when you entered the room. Other than that, it helps to have a mix of patterns, solids, and graphic pillows.

Just turn your imagination on, think of something you love, something inspiring and depict it on your walls to make this feeling stay with you at your home working place. Your home office can enhance your professionalism and to make you feel more comfortable while working. You have to agree that the place where you spend hours working has to be welcoming and cozy. That is why making your home office cozier is a great thing to do. Play with hardware to make your work space looks less "officey," Cohen suggests. When mixing metals, make sure that they are different enough from one another.
In addition, when adding artwork to your space, include pieces that are meaningful to you. And creating a window seat not only adds extra seating, but the drawers also provide more storage. While purchasing bookshelves is always an option, we wanted to make custom built-ins for our home office library.

If your room is too small to make a wide home office, you can try to save the space by making a home office nook. Though sometimes it is far less convenient, it will look much cozier. And if you wisely use a vertical space, you will not have to worry about the lack of space to put all things needed. For our dark and moody office, I chose photography that my son took from our vacations. I really love to incorporate unexpected items like these when I style a room. This will allow us to add a printer or other office machines we made need and keep them out of sight.
“This simple office was carved out of the massing above a staircase, allowing a compact house to live more spaciously,” says Davis. “A sturdy Masonite top with a leading Douglas Fir edge makes up the desk surface." Designer Jenny Kirschner agrees that storage is integral to any home office and even uses it as a jumping off point for her designs. And a floor lamp is placed next to the club chair for task lighting.
We have lots of cheap miniblinds in our house and while I don’t love them, replacing them hasn’t been a huge priority. Usually they aren’t super noticeable, especially when they are open. And replacing all the window treatments throughout an entire house can be incredibly costly. It started as a cheap set of drawers with a bad paint job and now it looks like a gorgeous vintage piece.

In case you’ve been buried under a rock for the last couple of years, plants have made a big comeback. No Instagrammable space is complete without a couple of leafy additions. Not only do they look fresh and natural, they also invoke a sense of connection to nature.
Smell is a powerful sense and can affect your brain function on different levels.
Sometimes, all you need is some simple tips and tricks to make a great impact. Faith is partial to both oversized statement-making art as well as a framed grouping of art made by her kids. Decorist's Creative Director Jessica McCarthy likes pieces that can serve as an inspiration point for creative projects.
I’m a huge fan of using the rooms in your home in whatever way works best for your family. And this room was doing us no good sitting empty and unused, so I decided to turn it into my home office. My youngest is now five and all three of my boys chose to share a room together. They love playing together and most nights they pile up in the top bunk together like little puppies.

This office has a classic men's club vibe — rich tufted leather chairs, wood paneling, an iron chandelier, a coffered ceiling and, best of all, a panel opens up to reveal a hidden bar. The black, white and shades of gray keep the palette clean and allow for eclectic touches, like the library wallpaper, chalkbaord wall and funky table lamp. Individual touches — like the graphic floral wallpaper, the dress form, the grid of shelves with neatly displayed supplies and the art wall — give this workspace a very personal look.
To make this more of a functional work space, I’m using a metal utility cart next to the chair to hold my planner, pens, pencils, and any paperwork I currently need. And while I do have a desk in here, I know myself and I know that I prefer to work in the armchair in the corner. It’s way more comfy and has a better view of the rest of the room as well as outside the window.
